  • f I created a community, would I become it’s (lone) moderator automatically?

Yes. But you can also immediatly appoint new mods and/or un-mod yourself if there are other mods present, so it is easy to give a community away when there are other interested users. It’s not a permanent thing.

What consequences, requirements and things would I need to keep in mind as a moderator?

Your community needs to be compatible wih the Fediverse Code of Conduct … but that boils down to “don’t be a dick and don’t post illegal stuff” which is pretty much just common sense. It’s not exactly hard to follow those rules ;)

Apart from that, you can set whatever rules you want. But keep in mind that the Fediverse is still a lot smaller than reddit, so if you are TOO niche / narrow / strict with the rules, you’ll have a hard time finding people who want to engage with your community. General, broad-themed communities with easy-to-follow rules have a bigger chance to thrive.

… and a personal little tip: don’t slam down the ban hammer at every opportunity. As a mod you are able to ban, silence, remove or otherwise “punish” people for bad behaviour, but that doesn’t mean that you have to do that. It’s a lot better to give users the benefit of the doubt, explain instead of punish (as they might not be aware that they did something bad in the first place), and give them a reasonable chance to fix their mistakes on their own before taking action. Post removal, bans and the like should be reserved solely for when the user in question is unwilling to cooperate OR did something obviously super shitty (like threatening other users, using slurs, posting illegal stuff etc.)

Is it advisable to copy-paste content from Reddit to kickstart new communities (given that the link source to the original content was added as well when making new posts)?

Well … as a last resort, yes. Original content or stuff from non-reddit sources is always preferable as it gives users of the Fediverse an incentive to visit communities here instead of going to reddit, but copypasted content is still better than no content at all, so if you can’t find interesting / worthwile stuff elsewhere, then copypasting from reddit is okay-ish too.

OC is still way better tho.

  • My guess is that’s either a typo and was supposed to be “shipped”, or that they deliberately chose the word shifted (“to exchange for or replace by another”) in order to combine the numbers of sales and repairs into one statistic so it looks bigger. After Nintendo was mass-sued about the poor quality of their C-sticks, they were ordered to replace / repair any stick drift issues for free even outside of the warranty period, and people naturally used that feature.

I for one had to send my joycons in for repair six times since buying the switch, so in that statistic my hardware would have been sold once, but “shifted” seven times.

  • I have a slightly weird and a bit too complicated approach to this issue, but it works for me at least:

I’m an avid breeder and have been maintaining a huge collection of 'mons with special egg moves, good IVs (and later Apriballs and hidden abilities) since the breeding mechanic was introduced. Whenever I feel the urge to restart a run on any game, including the “older” ones, I create five eggs for a starter team and let them hatch in the new playthrough. That way I make sure that every team member is useful to me right from the start and I have no issues circling through them depending on which one is the most useful for the climate/zone I’m currently in or which one needs a little more XP at the moment.

Whenever I rely only on the 'mons that can be caught in early routes, I end up overlevelling my starter as they tend to be the most (or only…) useful team member and trying to battle with the others feels like a chore. It’s just not fun to try and fight with a Poochyena that only knows Tackle, Howl, Sand Attack and Growl until it finally gained eight or so more levels to learn its first actually useful attack, and then having to swap it out shortly after that because you need to drag an HM slave with you. =/

The downside is that you either need someone else to help you trade, or use one of the still availiable online storage options to trade with yourself in order to move the eggs or newly hatched 'mons into another game, and Nintendo’s service in that sector isn’t exactly convenient.

  • I love to “color match” Pokéballs with the Pokémon inside, even if that means that I have to toss a thousand balls at something not meant to be caught in that particular ball. Example: Shiny Umbreon and Heavy Ball are a perfect match, but Umbreon / Eevee is so lightweight that trying to catch one in a Heavy Ball comes with a big penalty / super low chance of success. Snorlax on the other hand is “meant to” be caught with a Heavy Ball, but I prefer the Lure Ball’s look for that one, only that Snorlax isn’t a water-type so the Lure Ball doesn’t get its bonus catch rate.

Generally I’m a fan of most Apriballs, but I also like the design of the Luxury Ball.

  • Depends on the Pokémon in question and what you want to do with it afterwards. An Egg Move that is difficult to achieve (because you need to chain breed and/or get earlier Gen Pokémon with said moves as parents) might be highly sought after by breeders even if the move itself is meh. If you plan to use the Pokémon competitively or trade with people interesed in geting their hands on such 'mons, then moves with high attack power, STAB or useful extra effects might be a higher priority even if they’re easy to achieve.

If you’re just doing it for fun without a specific goal in mind, then just go wild ;) That’s what I usually do at least, sometimes breeding EMs solely for my own amusement, like Togepi with “Peck” (can you imagine that flat-faced weirdo pecking someone?) or Treecko with Dragon Breath (not particularily useful but I found it funny that a pure grass-type can learn dragon-type moves)

  • While I think that people would be interested in trades, I don’t think a separate community for only trades would be necessary just yet. Maybe in a couple of months when the community grew big enough that trade requests/offers would otherwise get buried under newer posts, but as it is now I think it’s better just post requests/offers here… maybe with a separate tag indicating interest in trades?

  • They try, but utterly fail at it at the same time. As long as the Pokémon is “legal” (technically possible, no matter how improbable) they consider it “legit” (the real thing). Surprise Trades are full of “advertisement Pokémon”, usually shiny legendaries, Lv.100 starters with perfect IVs and the like, holding things like Master Balls or Ability Capsules, that are either nicknamed things like website-dot-com or have a website as their OT. (example)

Long story short, their filters suck. The only Pokémon that get flagged as fake are the ones that have “impossible” combinations, like male Salazzle or female Mothim. It’s especially annoying for people who send Breejdects into Surprise Trades, as you get those Advertisemons all the time.

  • The people requesting high-end legendaries and the like for some random low level garbage 'mon might be participants of offsite giveaways. I’ve hosted GA’s like these on reddit a couple of times whenever I had a ton of nice breedjects (like hidden ability starters with good IVs for example), but oftentimes other redditors also hosted GAs with hacked 'mons.

You basically made a post saying; “I currently have 50 hacked Hidden Ability Shiny Dittos, each with 6 perfect IVs. If you want one, put some low-level garbage 'mon into the GTS, request a lv.91-100 Ditto, and tell me your in-game name and what exactly you offered”.

Then people would leave comments like “My IGN is DudebroMcGee, left a lv.4 Caterpie, thank you” and the GA host then searched for this particular mon, checked if the username matched, and gave them the Ditto.

If your request is NOT absolutely insane in that situation, like for example offering an actual legendary or a popular shiny for that Ditto, it might get “sniped” by someone who has an ordinary boring non-HA bad-IV Ditto just lying around, and then you just lost a cool Pokémon for something you didn’t want. For those giveaways, it’s always best to offer the worst garbage and ask for something ridiculously valuable in return so that noone except the GA host would be tempted to trade.
