If I interpret the mac as just any laptop then I kind of agree. The more experience I have gained the less I care about how many monitors I have or how fancy my keyboard is. I do require linux though.

7·1 month agoKeeping in mind Valve is a for profit company. Why would they host anything that adds extra bandwith cost and does not increase revenue on their platform? Alternative “appstores” on Android are not hosted by Google, as far as I know.
Nice! I rember almost stripping a few plastic threads and then hoping for the best. So far so good. I hope you lots of fun and productive printing.
I personally use FreeCad it works most of the time but can be a real pain, even with proper parametric cad experience. Still it is the only real open-source parametric solid modeler. All the common ones have been mentioned but for a very small basic modeler I’d like to add https://solvespace.com/

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•PRUSA releases the OpenPrintTag, open source standard for filament spool identification and data trackingEnglish
1·1 month agoSupport in Klipper sounds amazing. There could be open repositories of printing parameters. Not 100% sure how Klipper would pass the info to the slicer but that seems solvable.

4·2 months agoI had similar requirements, and I was choosing between Prusa and Bambu Lab. In the end I chose a Prusa Core One. Here are my subjective reasons for choosing Prusa:
- It’s open (mostly) and hackable
- It’s proven and reliable, they use their own printers for production
- they make the slicer which bambu studio and others are based on
- it’s European
- Great support
- Upgrade kits for printers
A few cons of Prusa printers I’m aware of:
- expensive
- slower to innovate
- upgrade kit may cost close to the price of a new printer
Prusa is probably not the best value but as far as I know it is the only really open choice for a high quality printer. Feel free to correct me.
Personally if I find someone very unagreeable I will check their account to see if this is their whole online personality or just one or two posts, everyone has bad days. If it seems like a a person I would rather avoid altogether I will block.

Programming@programming.dev•How exactly does one get better at programming?
4·2 months agoI’m not sure I understand the question but I will try to answer. I did not mean to question you skill in particular, I know nothing about you.
I agree that programming requires repetition e.g. more programming, that’s why I said “This”.
What followed was a generic advice that helped me personally to improve a lot as a developer. I got the chance to work side by side with developers experienced in different types of projects, developers I consider more skilled than me in different ways. I consider this avaluabe experience.
Hope that clears it up a little, nothing to do with you’re skill in particular. English is not my first language so maybe my phrasing is a little weird.

2·2 months agoThis. For me personally It helps to think of programming as as craft. It also helps a lot if you have someone more skilled than you available to discuss.

29·2 months agoIt’s okay even fun at first, but eats your soul slowly over the years. Edit: that ofcourse depends on perspective e.g. what you are doing at the moment. I myself moved from an abusive job to a cozy corporate one, it seemed like heaven at first.

Try a few Gigabytes. I worked on site IT support for a year, we had to max out memory on a workstation because the company database was a, about 3GB, Excel file. It took minutes to open and barely worked, crashing frequently.
