I disagree, Proton is a privacy company with more followers on Mastodon than on Threads and TikTok. Should they also drop what Linux support they have to focus only on Windows because it has a large base? This feels alienating to their privacy conscious users if anything.

archchan@lemmy.mlto Proton @lemmy.world•Since Andy Yen's unfortunate comments, have any of you left Proton? And if so, what alternative did you choose?English196·6 months agoI still like and trust Proton and won’t be switching. They’ve built up enough good will. Hopefully they don’t keep burning through it though. I’m still sour over the lack of feature parity, linux support, reliance on Google for notifications, etc.

I’m glad that Dan finally got the apps on the stores at a critical moment though or we wouldn’t even be here.
I really hope this gets a proper foss “for you” algo. Personalized content and people discovery features are lacking on the fediverse.
archchan@lemmy.mlto Fediverse@lemmy.world•What made everyone move to Bluesky or Threads instead of Mastodon?English14·11 months agoI’m only on the fediverse but I miss algorithms. Recommended accounts (which to be fair exists on a corner of Mastodon), similar accounts to one you just followed, custom home feed, suggested posts, etc. Discoverability sucks on fedi and the lack of interest from devs for some sort of private FOSS implementation is disappointing.
Loops was like let’s have a “For You” algo early this year but even that seems to be a dead idea.

The less people spoof and the more people use Firefox + Linux, the less of a need there will be to spoof at all.
I just won’t use websites that won’t work with a Firefox + Linux user agent in the same way I won’t use a website that blocks ublock. I’m just not going to give Chrome or Windows a stat boost, even with Librewolf where I unspoofed the UA.
With Linux usage at an all time high, I’m itching for the year of the Linux desktop.

Coming from primarily centralized services, people will always be looking for a “main” instance because that’s what their brains are used to and that’s what will help adoption. The ones who care will use another instance. As long as fedi has the users and not the proprietary alternatives, it’s fine. We can manage.
