I feel like this was part of the Meta plan from the start. They know what they’re doing.
I am pretty much always wrong and also s piece of shit. I’m sorry. My self deprecation finally paying off.
For sure. Though the context is what bugged me. Inferring it’s decentralized felt off.
I would not add Threads to this article. Especially when you start the thing off by claiming the whole issue to begin with is big tech monopolizing. Other then that, alright.
It’s an admirable goal, to try and circumvent fighting but I’m just fine with instance users voting their preferences. People are gonna argue no matter what unfortunately. We’re a very stupid species, to be honest.
Meta should be fully jetisoned from the entire federation. If people want threads, join threads. edit: If people want their sports and brand posts then aggregate using RSS for corporate and non-corp social media. The whole purpose of the fediverse was to be NOT linked to tech bro empires.
Sad but true. I think the only way anything could ever be restored to the bygone tangible days of the Internet would be to destroy Meta, fully.
I’m old enough to know better than be excited. I haven’t seen a single good community have staying power in the time of the entire internet. And it’s only getting worse. Especially when a billion dollar tumor takes interest in where you’re at.
What I do find interesting and alarming is how aggressive Meta is in seeking out the small inconsequential pockets of the Internet and crushing them. They’re so deadset on fuxing any collective not being monitored by their government backed all seeing eye. It will be interesting to see how a federated social network holds up but I wouldn’t assume they don’t already have at least five game plans to crush it.
It just sucks how rapidly it’s becoming. Can’t even spend a year in bliss before the shitheels arrive.
I’ve noticed a lot of turfing on all of these threadsfed posts. It’s becoming more and more. People just need to get a threads account if it’s so important to them.
Sure but then anyone whose ever interacted with you, outside of Meta, will be susceptible to Meta’s privacy issues even if they block you or are only on instances that block threads because their previous comments will be on your content. At least from my understanding, that’s how defederating and blocking goes. If I’m wrong, let me know but if not it’s going to get hard knowing who we can interact with in the fediverse if they’re also interacting with threads.
It’s the first time I’ve seen it though
I was considering starting a mastadon account but I guess I’ll pass. Gonna be interesting to see how this changes the fediverse.
edit: oh double fuck you mastadon users. just go join threads already.
It can be both a “good” opportunity and bad but given the way Meta had to change its name to Meta after getting into trouble with running its platform to encourage fascism in national election outcomes … I think it’s safe to say the good that could possibly come of the federation does not outweigh the probable bad. I don’t agree with anything Zuckerfuck touches being anything close to reasonable to work with. Meta/Facebook’s track record isn’t something to ignore.
Thank you for asking this question. I was trying to find some mastadon based communities that do exist using the search on my instance and not seeing them come up. Now I see why. Maybe it’s time to live more on kbin.
This was the nerdiest “Choose your adventure” rpg but it was a fun read.
It definitely has that Front Page feel. I straight up just blocked .world after they took a pro Meta stand.
