The point is there are those who, like myself and others, who requested account deletions on kbin.social. And they have not been processed. Over a period of time those numbers add up. Then you have whole instances that moved (kbin.earth etc)

I’m not sure of the accuracy of the user count for kbin, because account deletion requests, at least for kbin.social, are not being processed. <edited>
Agreed!
No. It’s one of the things I like, that makes Lemmy different from Reddit. Why create a Reddit clone?
LoL 🔥
If I read that article correctly, that was up to $10 to book use of the nearest bathroom?? I’m sorry, when nature calls, I can’t see people trying to reserve a time slot, like you would a hair salon.
Very well said!
Associated Press article by HALELUYA HADERO AND DAVID BAUDER Updated 2:35 PM PST, December 27, 2023
"The New York Times is striking back against the threat that artificial intelligence poses to the news industry, filing a federal lawsuit Wednesday against OpenAI and Microsoft seeking to end the practice of using its stories to train chatbots.
The Times says the companies are threatening its livelihood by effectively stealing billions of dollars worth of work by its journalists, in some cases spitting out Times’ material verbatim to people who seek answers from generative artificial intelligence like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The newspaper’s lawsuit was filed in federal court in Manhattan and follows what appears to be a breakdown in talks between the newspaper and the two companies, which began in April.
The media has already been pummeled by a migration of readers to online platforms. While many publications — most notably the Times — have successfully carved out a digital space, the rapid development of AI threatens to significantly upend the publishing industry.
Web traffic is an important component of the paper’s advertising revenue and helps drive subscriptions to its online site. But the outputs from AI chatbots divert that traffic away from the paper and other copyright holders, the Times says, making it less likely that users will visit the original source for the information."
Missing Moshidon
No thank you. I’ll keep my bank.
Well, crap. I joined geddit.social after vlemmy admin disappeared with no notice. Fortunately, my primary account is lemm.ee and it has been solid. But it looks like I'll need to once again find another small back-up instance.
Geddit.social is my back-up instance as well. I see it's still down. Just curious, has it been down before today?
Good question. Will it sync with artemis.camp that does support a developmental API?
She took a drink from a cup that may or may not have been part of the scene.
So if Twitter is now ”X", what will tweets be called?
Oh okay, I see Lemm.ee now after doing a page refresh. Thanks
Can you add Lemm.ee and Geddit.social?
Are these good bots or bad ones to keep an eye on?
Connect is a good one. It’s available for download on Google Play.
I hope things turn around.
