Yeah seriously that’s an ungodly amount of RAM for a PC of this vintage. My old WinMe machine had 128MB.

Also upgraded to XP cause Me would BSoD so often that I never got a chance to do a proper shutdown at the end of the day. When the machine crashed, I was done for the day.)

When I bought the game it wouldn’t let me play without creating an account, and that was over a month ago. I guess the requirement is only just now rolling out for the majority of players?
Sorry for the confusion. TBF, a lot of the games I’m seeing in the comments were made into video games as well, which doesn’t help. The name of this community isn’t helping, either, lol. Probably should have been called something like tabletop_rpg instead, since these days most people associate RPGs with the video game form factor.

Yeah seriously the only two categories I have are favorites (games that are installed), and everything else (games that aren’t installed).
Man I’m getting old. The PCs from my teen years are now considered retro. To me, retro computing is pre-MSDOS.
The first thing that came to mind when AI language models first hit the scene is how it could be used to make NPCs so much better.
I’m picturing games where you talk to them through the mic and they actually respond with a relevant reply. You could still do prerecorded lines, but being able to respond to what they’re saying with anything you want – even things the developers didn’t intend – would go a long way towards feeling less like playing a game and more like being immersed in another world. Can’t wait for someone to actually implement this in a game.
I’ve been using an OLED as my primary monitor every day for three years now; the burn-in issues are greatly exaggerated. Not a single sign of burn-in, and I even disabled some of the protective features in the service menu to get a brighter picture. Modern panels are very good at mitigating the issue.
Before The Sims, I used to play with this program that was meant for architects designing homes, but 9-year-old me treated it like a game. It had a ray tracing button that when pressed, would render a ray-traced view of the room you were in.
It took at least a couple of minutes on my dad’s Windows 95 PC to render a single frame, and if you moved the camera at all, the view would switch back to raster and you had to re-render the scene all over again. But it was real ray tracing, performed on the CPU, in the 90s.
Well of course they didn’t. Who wants to pay $100k to keep it confidential? Leak it and you save yourself six figures.

People like it cause when it first came out, it was considerably better than other popular voice chat software available for PC games at the time, like TeamSpeak and Ventrillo. But most importantly: it was free, unlike those other two. So people flocked to it and it blew up big, leading us to where we are today.
Yes but you can always just update the emulator yourself. If you’re playing the latest games then you’re usually using a more up-to-date version anyway.

Trust me, you don’t want to be raised by helicopter parents. It traumatizes you for life. I know I’m not explaining this adequately enough for someone who didn’t grow up this way to understand just how bad it is to never have any privacy or time to yourself, especially when you’re an introvert like me. I don’t think I ever can explain it, so you’ll have to just trust me when I say I’m still fucked up over being raised by parents who care too much.
