If I recall correctly, the narrative going into this season was that Ohtani is tired of not making the playoffs. If that’s true, then you might be right that money alone won’t do it.
Obviously Ohtani knows more about the Angels than I do, but from my perspective it’s hard to see why he’d want to return. The franchise has floundered around two all-time great talents for years now. They’ve never even had a winning season with Ohtani.
What do you think?
It seems to me like they’re going to face a lot of backlash unless they extend him.
They can let one of the best players ever walk and get nothing in return, or they can trade him for a return that will feel insufficient and risk a strong contender, such as the Dodgers, extending him.
It’s a tough spot for the Angels.
It never ceases to surprise me how fast some things can change in baseball. Bailey Ober, Pablo Lopez, and Joe Ryan are a fantastic core for the rotation.
Do you think they’ll look to re-sign or extend Gray or Maeda?
I’ve been thinking the same thing. I’d like to see the Twins add a good bat (or maybe two solid ones) at the deadline to make a good run at the division title.
It would be nice, I agree! The Mets are my NL team so I’d be delighted if the Polar Bear won again.
You love to see it! I’m happy for Twins fans.
Is that the team’s second CGSO this year? I think Joe Ryan had one too.
I’m hoping Vladdy wins a rematch against Alonso and the whole thing. I think that would make him and Vlad Sr. the only father-son duo to win the derby.
Agreed. Bad for the Angels and bad for the sport.
Here’s hoping Ward recovers quickly!
