This one was consistently decent until the last year or so. It’s one of the few places that’s still open past 9:00 since 2020, and the only place open after 11:00, so I was going about once a week on my late night. Lately it’s just not worth the time, money, health, or disappointment.

I’m sure it’s because they’re understaffed. The other two Taco Bells nearby have always been bad though.

Last time I went to Taco Bell, I paid $27 for two people, and was told to wait in a parking space. 25 minutes later, they brought out our cold stale food. I could phone in a takeout order from the fancy local Mexican restaurant up the road for almost the same price, same wait, and better food. So convenience is not even part of it, at least where I live.

Steam, GameStop, Toys-R-Us, Walmart… Someone always makes a profit on selling games, or any products - even digital. Steam has not reinvented the wheel here. It’s not a new concept. Are you arguing that the idea of stores should be eliminated?

In return, the game is more likely to be seen, just like placing a product in a real store where people walk by it. It also gets advertised, reviewed, has another community outlet, and Steam uses their own servers and bandwidth to distribute it.

It’s not a bad deal for the devs and publishers.

It’s also an easy way to show new users one basic front-facing feature on Lemmy that is different from Reddit - which is a good idea on its own, but especially because Reddit used to display upvotes/downvotes this way and then removed it entirely, probably for manipulative reasons.

It’s good to be able to customize, but better to have the default option be an improvement over the alternative. Even more-so when the change isn’t jarring.

I usually enjoy online multiplayer because it’s always a different and unpredictable experience. Keeps it fresh. I don’t really feel competitive when I play against other players. The key is to play casually, and disable voice chat. There’s never anything of value in random voice chat, only the contrary. And if cheaters show up, just exit and do something else.

That said, if you find yourself feeling very strongly about how you think the other players might feel when they win or lose, then I agree it’s probably a good idea to just avoid multiplayer or any other environment you perceive as toxic and unhealthy.

I like how they made the logo look like it says “ADS” throughout.

You can sort by posts, comments, subscribers, etc. plus other useful filters. It’s currently the best tool for finding active communities - especially if you’re on a smaller instance.

It’s useful because it shows numbers across all instances - not just in relation to your own.

You can see that some of the top communities are not English speaking, which may be why you don’t see them in your feed.

Clearly they knew searching for Memmy is going to be hot shit, so they added Mummy for the collateral views.

It’s not really the content quality or mass usage that bothers me. The Fediverse is built on ideals of open source, privacy, decentralization, controlling your own experience and your own data, etc… All these things are incompatible with Meta and other mega corporations. In fact they are a direct threat to corporate greed. Meta is not a friend of the Fediverse and its premise, and their meddling here can only erode those ideals. Regardless of content, number of users, and so on, I hope the devs, at least, can stay the course and not cave to corporate pressure, and that all the Twitter/Reddit refugees can remember why they ultimately left those platforms in the first place.
