Fungi in general are about twice as old as sharks. Roughly a billion years vs ~450 million years.
The point is there just weren’t any which had bacteria to decompose trees, as no bacteria had evolved the ability yet. Until there were. Took millions of years though.
Fun fact, now we have mushrooms which can deal with plastic.

But yeah they were aware of things beyond the limits of their maps. So idk id this is more accurately “roughly around the limits of roman maps” instead of “the area the Roman empire ruled”.
Tacitus for instance talks about the Fenni and the romans definitely visited and knew the Baltic Sea, but there probably wasn’t a whole lot going on around 100AD that would’ve been of that much interest to the romans. Fishing and relatively poor trading (by Roman standards).

Nice reply man, super polite. You process trauma in whatever way best suits you, but… You’re making the claim that is essentially “if you’re bothered by traumatic memories, you can just stop thinking about them” which is reductive and simplistic as fuck, and above all very much objectively wrong.
People who are bothered by images from traumatic memories can’t just choose to “picture a teapot instead if you need to get away from it.” That’s. Not. How. Trauma. Works.
Seeing it in your mind may make it more real, but it also means you can just picture a teapot instead if you need to get away from it.
Thaaaaat’s not how trauma works. If you could just distract yourself, the trauma wouldn’t be nearly as much of an issue.
The problem is being forced to relive a horrible memory despite your will or not.

In the 1980s 8-inch drives used with some mid-range systems increased from a low of about 30 MB in 1980, to a top-of-the-line 3 GB in 1989.

Seems like 30MB wasn’t horribly uncommon in “mid-range systems” in 1980, so I doubt that 40MB in 1982 would’ve been “incredibly uncommon.”
But I’ve no personal experience from the time.

Earthworms aren’t internal parasites and thus probably never evolved the ability for their eggs to survive 🦆🪿 digestion. They produce 2-5mm cocoons which have the eggs and which are deposited into soil, and which I don’t think would survive duck digestion.
