It’s a daily occurance on Lemmy as well. It just flies under the radar because for the most part it’s directed at people we don’t like to begin with.
Independent thinker valuing discussions grounded in reason, not emotions.
Open to reconsider my views in light of good-faith counter-arguments but also willing to defend what’s right, even when it’s unpopular. My goal is to engage in dialogue that seeks truth rather than scoring points.

It’s funny how it seems totally acceptable to be a complete asshole towards other people, especially on social media, but we’re somehow supposed to accept deadnaming as being off the limits.
if I found out people were going around talking about me like this, I’d take a rusty icepick and make sure that they never think in words ever again.
That seems like a perfectly appropriate reaction.
The reason I personally don’t recommend or hardly even mention Lemmy to anyone else is because here’s hardly any content they’d be interested in. The vast majority of posts are quite esoteric and directed at the kind of people who already are here.
Twitter and YouTube are the least toxic social media platforms I use. I know toxicity exists on both but it is not being served to me. My feed is what I want to see and only that.
On the other hand, something like Reddit or Lemmy needs a huge amount of curation to keep the feed even half decent.
I’ll choose better features over performance any day but thanks
I don’t play games with my phone. The performance is more than good enough for my use. And it has a removable battery just like the ones I had before
I went with Samsung XCover 6 Pro. Not only has it a headphone jack but a removable battery as well.
I don’t mind driving a manual. Every car I’ve owned has had a manual transmission so automatic would be a solution to a problem that I don’t have. I like driving and I don’t want the car to do the driving for me.
What Ferrari and Lamborghini does doesn’t concern me but I’ll keep buying cars with manual transmission for as long I can get one. I wouldn’t buy a new car anyway so that alone gives me atleast 10 extra years. I still refuse to buy smartphones without a headphone jack either. Why? Mostly because of a principle.
Why are people speaking of incels as if that’s some kind of club you need to apply for membership? Isn’t it by definition something you’re part of against your own will? That’s like talking about people under 6ft tall as some sort of secret society plotting the takeover of the world.
Sure, but I was mostly highlighting the naivety of coming to an online forum and effectively saying “please be nice and considerate of other people’s feelings” as if that’s going to achieve anything else but to make them look like a virtue signaling fool. It’s the internet we’re talking about after all. I agree with the intention, but see it as a wasted effort. Deadnaming is not going to become the next n-word.
