  • My spouse and I were watching the game showcase event and saw this trailer. Couldn’t help but laugh at the overt level of misogyny. Female character models had extreme jiggle physics in tandem with skin tight revealing clothes. I think we saw one straddling a motorcycle and watching her butt ripple everywhere like jello on a trampoline. Male character models had no jiggle physics whatsoever.

  • I’m one of those persons for sure. I love the overall professional setup, but the monitors are way too high and go against recommendations for healthy work ergonomics. This looks like OP’s eyes are lined up with the center of the screen rather than the top of the screen - a common misconception I see lots of persons still do.

Mayo Clinic recommends that for best ergonomics, the top of your monitor’s screen should be lined up with your eye height. This ensures that when you work or game, only your eyes will look down to see the rest of your monitor. Also prevents you from craning and moving your neck constantly to look up at other corners of the monitor. Those constant movements of your neck throughout the day cause strain over time, and certainly compound over the years.

“Place the computer monitor straight in front of you, directly behind your keyboard, about an arm’s length away from your face. The monitor should be no closer to you than 20 inches (about 50 centimeters) and no further away than 40 inches (about 100 centimeters). The top of the screen should be at or slightly below eye level. If you wear bifocals, lower the monitor an additional 1 to 2 inches (about 2 to 5 centimeters) for more comfortable viewing.”

As I get older I’ve been very careful to pay attention to ergonomics. I keep my monitors at arm’s length away and always lined up properly per medical recommendations. I spend most of my day at my desk working or gaming, so I wanted to be as healthy as I could be. Doing this for years now and it’s been great - not as exhausted, no strain, etc.

  • You are correct. My thumb was bleeding so I reached for the first thing I had. I purchased two boxes of generic bandages through a buy one get one sale years ago. It was a good deal.

In 2031 when I have used up the bandages, I will check out gauze and medical tape. I think they may be a more thrifty decision with better results.

  • It is good to be safe. I will check these blades, too.

Preventable accidents can happen. The peeler accident has concerned me. I should look after my safety and well-being. On Tuesday when the businesses reopen, I will check insurance coverage and make sure that everything is in order for my beneficiaries.

  • Why are you in the Nintendo community for console gamers commenting about emulation?

I have a PC that I built that runs Linux Mint. I have a Steam Deck. I can also emulate whatever game I want.

Some Nintendo fans just want to buy Nintendo things and enjoy the experience because they love the games. Let gamers enjoy games no matter how they want to play them.

I am also excited for this new console and will be watching it to see if it’s a good fit me in the future.

  • If the future brings about a shift where delivery corporations reduce costs by outsourcing employee pay to the working class, then we must opt out of delivery companies bringing products to your door.

There will be a return of brick and mortar retail, or an opportunity for corporations to enter the market with new drive up delivery lockers where you can pick your shit up through a drive through window - McPackage (not sexual).

If there’s one slightly good thing about capitalism, it’s the blood-thirsty competition. Some corporation wants your money, and they’re gonna do what they can to capture the market and get your money. Drive up package pickup sounds really cool for a $79 annual subscription (until it eventually enshittifies). I’d love minimising the time I need to be home, the concern of missing a delivery, a porch pirate stealing a package, something getting damaged or lost in transit, etc.

Edit: I’m aware you can pay for P.O. Boxes and parcel lockers from delivery companies, but they will become anachronistic. Expensive monthly fees, small lockers, and inconvenient because you have to find parking at your strip mall, walk in, wade through people, and get your stuff from a small area. I can see drive up package pickup (McPackage) taking off if tipping your delivery drivers becomes the norm.

  • 100% agree with you dude. As customers, we do want to know about sales. But companies need to meet us in the middle. Give us the option to opt out. And in your app, embed a non-annoying advertisement about your sale.

Show a sales banner that does not obstruct the functional UI or take up signficiant real estate. Have a “Deals” or “Offers” button that is animated - wiggle, shake, whatever! That’s the best compromise for the user experience.

Steam has pop ups, but you can opt out of that pop up that shows your Recommendation queue in a carousel you can click through to see different games. I think that’s cool! But I have the option to disable it and so I have done so. If I want to see my recommendations, I can look at the main page and simply click left and right through them to discover new games.

We need Proton to think about the user experience and give us the option to opt out of those things.

  • Right! I think if I was a free user, yeah I’d be annoyed that I got a huge pop up. But I’d accept that - I’m using a service for free and benefiting from it entirely.

As a paid user if that pop up appears, there better be a tick box right below that ad that gives me the option to tick “Don’t show promotional pop ups again”. And if it is not in the pop up window, I better see a toggle in Settings. If it did exist, I would have been annoyed it popped up but would have been relieved I could disable them in perpetuity. I never would have made this post on Lemmy if that were the case! :)

But they have devs to pay, managers, customer service reps, SRE, infrasture providers, vendors, marketing, etc. Embed a “Sale” banner in the app that doesn’t annoy or take up significant UX space. I want to see an “Offers” or “Sale” button that wiggles/shakes/animated. Things like that are necessary because they need to make money. I’m okay with that! But oof those pop ups - gosh I hate them.

  • Yep totally. I think that’s the way to go. Granted this is the first time I’m using “Proton” services and also that I’m paying for their VPN. I imagine they send you emails like this to give you a heads up your subscription is expiring.

What you wrote though is exactly what I want to see. It’s a non-annoyance and expected. I do know they have bills to pay and a lot of employees that won’t work for free. So what I would appreciate from their apps are no pop ups. Give me an embedded banner in the app when you have a sale. Make an “Offers” button animated or wiggle/shake to alert the user there is a cool sale going on. I just don’t want pop ups, especially when they take up 30% of my screen real estate. I would not have been mad at all if there was a tick box that said “Don’t show offers again” in that pop up window. I would have said, “cool, I can turn this stupid thing off” and never would have made this post on Lemmy nor engaged Proton support because I would know they consider the experience of their users.
