  • There’s a video out there of the shooting. The cops arrive at the scene near an allegedly stolen car, four black teens run in different directions away. Within six seconds of arriving on scene, the cop shoots and kills the kid that’s in front of him. He was holding a bag, and was absolutely running away.

The cops say he had a gun after the fact, and I think the video shows a gun on the ground in the parking lot, away from where people were running. The two other teens were charged with whatever they call car theft there, one is still at large, and of course the last one was killed by police.

I thought I found a non-edited version of the video last night, but I can’t find it again this morning. Yet.

  • I love in Oklahoma, Tornado Alley, and most of our lines are on poles. So every bad storm or tornado, we lose power. And every time it’s suggested, “experts” cover back and say it’s too expensive. I didn’t believe it - all the manpower and cost to rebuild would be gone vs a one time burying cost. But of course, there’s no kickbacks on lines that don’t need repairing.

I’m sure the East coast is the same deal. Someone’s making money off that outage.

  • Oh no, they’re putting denuvo on it? Man I loved the first game. I don’t think they even had anything close to a problem with piracy because it was a huge hit. Like, it not only did amazing for Warhorse Studios, but it made a huge tourism jump for the region.

That’s a bummer, and as much as I want to support KC:D II, I can’t support denuvo.

  • Direct x is definitely a problem, and it doesn’t help that Final Fantasy 14 is a poorly coded game, as I’ve never had problems prior to that. And I’m running Windows 10. I used to run Linux years ago, but couldn’t use Netflix on it. Now that they’re crap and jellyfin is a better choice overall, I might have to try switching back. I’d greatly prefer to use all AMD, but we’ll see. I think the upcoming W11 upgrade-or-die ultimatum in October 2025 will force lazy people like myself to spend the time to switch or rebuy. My work environment that I support is Windows/Cisco/Fortinet, so it’s easier to come home and do the same rather than learn how to install/configure/support Linux versions of the same thing. But who knows what the next year will bring.

  • I felt the same way until I had a ROG strix RX-2700xt. I started getting fatal directx errors playing FFXIV all the time. It was an allocation problem and there was no driver version I could try that fixed it. I started trying to learn to custom-patch a driver, gave up, and bought an Nvidia card which I hated to do. Fixed the problem. Turns out the drivers for that specific card suck in general.

I still prefer AMD, but I’m wary of card manufacturers. Their drivers can be awful. In this case though, the default drivers didn’t work either. And you generally won’t know the word on the street until well after the cards aren’t higher end.

Anecdotal for sure, but it took a year of fighting on and off to fix and I don’t want that when I’m trying to relax.

  • Excellent point I forgot about! My mom was always miffed that I wore out her scissors faster.

I’ve had the same green handled Fiskars for maybe 30 years (which additionally, I associate red as right and left as green) and was disappointed that I couldn’t find another pair anywhere. Your Wescott recommendation is exactly what I was looking for, so thank you!
