Basically looking for an open source alternative to google my maps, to plan out trips or share recommendations with friends.
I’ve tried using uMap (OSM) for mexico city, but it has a lot of missing or outdated data.
For opensource maps, it will be open street map. If it is outdated for you area, open a few issues, add a few things yourself, and you will notice that others will join to help.
Organic maps on fdroid. Data from osmand but without the learning curve.
What kind of data do they use from Osmand?
None. They ment from Open Street Map
What learning curve is there in Osmand? Bunch of extra features but they can be ignored.
Just got downvoted but no one answered :(

https://gpx.studio/ is very good for trip planning.
I use osmand on Android. Bit of a leaning curve to start as you need to download the maps you want and set up features, but then it is available offline as well and can include topographical and trails or other data if you’re not just traveling in cities.
gpx studio visualizes the altitudes and path surfaces in charts. i import the resulting file into osmand and hit navigate.
Yeah, I hadn’t heard of it, but it looks really cool. Gonna have to try that out.
I had no idea they have hiking trails! You opened a whole new world for me!

I’m using Osmand. I think this is the most advanced one. If there is a better one, I can get your recommendations for Android.
Do you plan and share on web (laptop or pc) or on mobile? I use OSMand web for planning and syncs with OSMand Android (paid version).
Normally plan on web then access on phone. OSM seemingly was missing a lot of places ive been to in mexico and would recommend and it took a while to add just 2-3 places.
