I kinda agree, but there’s a massive jump between making a mod for a released game (which often has an SDK or mod tools built on top of it, often you only need to write config files, provide assets and maybe a bit of lua or something) and building a game from scratch on top of an engine.
I wish all these people working for free for proprietary games would invest their labor in making content for a Free Software game engine instead.
