UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH! scared-fash

Is this one of those ‘we don’t talk about Season 1 episode 3’ moments?

It’s been a while since I saw TNG and I popped it on again and got to this episode and…UUUUUUUUUUH scared-fash

Yeah this is one I warn any new Star Trek person about. You can read the premise and know its going to be bad, but somehow it feels even worse than you expect. Other famously bad episodes like Voyager’s Threshold are entertaining in a train wreck way, this is viewable only in a “and now you know that no episode will be that bad again” way.

I had to look it up on Wikipedia because I couldn’t remember it.

    Got to this part:

This was developed into the final story, which was described as having a “1940s tribal Africa”

And remembered exactly the shit show that was this episode! I must have blocked it out. I would like to block it out again tbh.

is that episode racist? I had to look it up and it looks like it’s the one where everybody gets infected by space alcoholism and people fuck

Many of the ship’s crew come under the influence of the ailment, with much sexier results than on Kirk’s Enterprise.

    lol wikipedia

Ah, this is weird; on netflix it’s season 1 episode 3, but on wikipedia it’s episode 4; the episode is called ‘code of honor’ and the culture in question is ‘Ligonian’.

EDIT: okay, I see why it’s episode 3; episode 1 and 2 are a singular episode and the episode you mentioned is listed as the second episode.

Powers and Baron pitched a story based on a reptilian race following a code of honor similar to the bushido code of the samurai. This was developed into the final story, which was described as having a “1940s tribal Africa” theme by staff writer Tracy Tormé.[2] The episode was received negatively amongst cast, crew, fans, and reviewers, and has been called “quite possibly the worst piece of Star Trek ever made”

Oh yeah that sounds really bad. Also it looks like the director was replaced halfway through (or maybe they were like, fuck, this is too racist im outta here)
