Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker pushed back Monday on President Donald Trump’s threat to deploy the National Guard to the state.

“What President Trump is doing is unprecedented and unwarranted,” Pritzker said at a news conference. “It is illegal. It is unconstitutional. It is un-American.”

Pritzker claimed Trump is manufacturing a crisis and noted that neither he nor Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson had been contacted by the White House about working together.

Pritzker pointed out that murders, shootings, robberies and burglaries are all down year over year.

Only if they want to continue to be employed as the jackbooted thugs who step on the necks of Americans.

You sign contracts for a certain amount of time. It’s like being a full time soldier, you can’t just stop showing up. A lot of national guard were sent to Iraq and Afghanistan because of that.

They take an oath to faithfully obey all orders from the president and their superiors.

None of these people are in a position to determine the legality of their orders, and neither are strangers on lemmy. They would face years of costly legal battles to defend not following an order and would most certainly lose.

You would lose nothing though, so you shout at them.

That wasn’t the question, I don’t feel comfortable telling you my location, and my lawyer advises me not to answer that.

You can’t even say what state you’re in? How about how you’re fighting trump’s policies since we have no idea where you live?

You seem awfully hyped about having teenagers go AWOL with probably no money or support.

And you seem awfully hyped to have teenagers go unlawfully arrest and assault US citizens without provocation.

Every single JAG lawyer in the country should be lined up around the block for these soldiers. There is a clear cut and dry requirement of refusal of unlawful orders within that contract that they signed. In fact, not “going AWOL” in this case is going to be a much, much worse outcome for them in the long term. It’s like nobody learned anything from Nuremberg at all. “Just following orders” is not an acceptable excuse for a crime and there is precedent that says so.

Boo fucking hoo? Guess what happens if you get arrested as a protester and look too brown? You run a good risk of getting sent to work in labor camps for random countries that paid the right bribes.

I am not going to shed any tears for the oppressors just because they don’t want to be inconvenienced.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to post this again. Also, they might be doing their thing on their end, you don’t know.

Do not split and no cracks. You don’t have to agree with how they are fighting the system, but keep your thoughts private and instead, explain how your system is awesome.

But what is happening in Hong Kong is they come up with a slogan, which is translated as Do Not Split, which is, we know that some people are willing to be confrontational with riot police.

And when they are, that’s going to cost the state in terms of not only resources, but it’s going to cost the state in terms of political capital and support. And we know that there are some people who are not willing to do that. And we are going to abide by the protocol of Do Not Split, which means that we’re not going to criticize them openly, and they’re not going to criticize us openly.

If we’re the pacifists, we’re not going to have them criticize us for being sort of like, I don’t know, limpid or flaccid or not courageous or whatever. And we’re not going to criticize them for being more confrontational. And the thing is that the support is also tacit.

You keep using those words, but they don’t mean what you think they mean. “how they are fighting the system” is the keyword here. These people aren’t fighting the system; they are literally the system.

So… when you are getting pushed into the gas chamber are you still going to be praising our men and women in the armed forces?

Fuck that. If they want to be the arm of the enemy then they are the fucking enemy. Oh, the are secretly resisting and feel really really bad while they are caving someone’s skull in or calling ice in on a brown person? Well, that changes everything!

The day that Captain Soapy Pierceson suddenly leads his revolt and fights off all the bad soldiers to protect civilians? I will praise the fuck out of that man. But I am going to shit on him and all of his thug buddies until that happens. And I am going to side eye anyone who feels otherwise.

Question 1: What US state are you in?

Question 2: What do you suggest we do instead of just complaining about the national guard?

Mod note (not as a user like previous stuff): Settle down. You’re getting into aggressive territory.

It wasn’t Tienanmen Square though and the resisters weren’t turning on each other. We’re trying to avoid the Divide and Conquer way of warfare, which seems to be prevalent in this thread.
