Was just thinking of writing a post here about this album.
A friend recommend I give it another listen on the basis that it surprisingly has a strain of tranci-ness to the way it kinda just keeps the chug going.
So I did and found myself enjoying it. My take is that it opens and closes pretty weakly but has a middle section that more less matches what my friend describes. The core of the album’s sound and vibe, to my ear, doesn’t really sound that dated either.
Coming away from the listen my reaction was that I wanted that band to release a second album and see where it goes. I don’t think death magnetic counts.
A lot of it is the snare drum and down-tuned guitars, mixed with simpler songs.
There’s a lot more raw emotion on display here, and if you listen having seen the Some Kind of Monster documentary, it brings the album into a whole new light.

I never understood why people hate this album. It’s full of amazing songs (Besides Frantic)

I did actually see that documentary, and I must say it was pretty useful in helping me understand this album
