Thanks for the explanation! That is indeed uncommon where I live and usually sold as “American Slices” or some similar names.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL the Wikipedia language with the second-most articles is CebuanoEnglish
22·22 days agoFrom what I read it’s mostly bot created nonsense stub articles. I’d rather have a smaller wiki with higher quality than a pond that’s miles wide but only inches deep.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•CD Projekt Red has confirmed that it made a modder take down their Cyberpunk 2077 VR mod [VR Injection Framework: +100 games supported] because they were charging money for it [Patreon subscribers]English
7·2 months agoThe current situation is a lose-lose for both sides. The options that I can see are either an agreement for donation based payment with support from the publisher or CDPR just “buying”/“hiring” the mod and the support behind it. Other than that I don’t see any way that a precedent for a commercial product based on a game mod works.
As a Dutchman living in Germany I understand that feeling. Germany too is a very cash heavy society. With that comes widespread tax evasion. Anyone who has ever hired a contractor for any repairs around the house will know the question: with or without invoice? It’s the same for any restaurant. More often than not the card payment terminal will be “out of order” right now, but cash is welcome.
It’s obviously a relative measurement, but I find it impressive that Czechia is on the same level as Norway, given that the former just elected an oligarch for PM for the second time and the latter is often held up as a shining example of a country getting things right.

Parenting@lemmy.world•After unprecedented autism-vaccine messaging change, scientists, advocates say CDC no longer trustworthy
1·4 months agoUS Government sources in general should not be trusted in my opinion. The scientific basis and independence of all agencies of that government have been seriously eroded and should therefore never be taken at face value without verification from trustworthy sources.
Yes, but what have the Romans ever done for us?

5·4 months agoIt’s not clearly stated on the map. I suspect dashed lines are either infrequent ones or lines served by partner companies.
I realise that modern maps are better at conveying the information that they are supposed to conves. But these older ones just look like adventure - more like an advertisement than purely informational.

Parenting@lemmy.world•How did you get your children to go to day care?
1·6 months agoWhere I live, here in Germany, it’s unusual for children younger than one to go to any kind of day care. Starting at around age one I’d estimate that around one third of children go to day care. By age three virtually all children go to Kindergarten. In my home country, the Netherlands, it’s much more common for children younger than one to go to day care.
What I find baffling though is that this German system is that it’s fully geared towards mothers staying at home for very long periods of time. Not only does this not make sense on a macroeconomic level, but it also deprives people of social interactions that don’t stem from being a parent, at least in my opinion.
Well, at least our day care is dirt cheap here, coming in at 280 € per month per child for five days a week between 7 am and 4 pm.

Parenting@lemmy.world•How did you get your children to go to day care?
6·6 months agoI share your opinion. Unfortunately the weird method that takes weeks and moves at a snail’s pace isn’t optional here at our day care. Speaking from experience with our first child: it would have been absolutely fine to leave her there for the entire day much, much earlier, since she really enjoyed going from the first day.
Joke’s on me. Apparently the chickpeas we use are actually made in Greece. The more you know…
We make Greek Salad often as well. You already mentioned the Feta but I can also recommend adding some chickpeas. While not really part of a Greek salad traditionally, they do add a nice filling component to make it a satisfying meal.
They look really tasty! Thanks for sharing detailed instructions. I’ll have to add these to the to do pile and try them at some point.
I just checked the store brand Italian Salsiccia here (3,49 € for 300g, made in Italy) and it has 1% sugar (listed as dextrose). Supposedly dextrose is often used in raw sausage products to retain that juicy red colour, at least from what I read online.

Oh, I didn’t see you there…
