I thought it was Guy Ritchie’s Lock Stock? Or was that first main character role?

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Tesseract dev injects malicious code into browser to illegally DDOS the dbzer0 instanceEnglish
37·13 days agoSome guy made a UI for Lemmy, called tesseract. Then he hid secret blacklists within that UI which automatically blocked a bunch of leftist and trans content, as well as some generic spam stuff. Someone noticed that a trans community was blocked when accessed through tesseract, and so they did some digging and published the blocklists.
Guy that made tesseract calmly and reasonably wrote a rambling “farewell” letter where he basically said we’re all insane and he’s done trying to make Lemmy a “better” place, and included ddos code within the farewell letter targeting the instance that first identified the blacklists.
Now they’ve spent the last 2-3 days arguing how great the tesseract blacklist was under various alt accounts.

Technology@beehaw.org•It’s Looking Like the Cybertruck Is the Biggest Flop in Automotive History
9·15 days agoSeems to me that it’s much easier to create a single cohesive nationalistic identity by destroying every other place where people can find identity. Which often involves groups of people interacting and finding ways to work together.
Bit like how people with few real life social connections are much more likely to fall into parasocial relationships.
Also a bit like the isolation step before the abuse starts.

Also, if possible, let me cross the border when it comes time for that. I’ll make cookies and invent new stuff for you! If you give me immunity from international prosecution, I’ll share all the IP I already have in my brain.
Want bunkers made of stuff that’s four times stronger than concrete for half the price? For the same price, you could build shit that will shrug off modern bunker busters, and would probably survive a direct tactical nuke!

9·23 days agoYeah, but we’re talking about literally soaking the entire building in concentrated vinegar for months, not throwing a water balloon of regular vinegar at it. This particular case probably didn’t do anything

Technology@beehaw.org•‘We used acid to sabotage Microsoft hyperscale data centre construction’
14·23 days agoPretty minor. If they picked up the whole data center and soaked it in a large jug of 10% acetic acid for about nine months, the concrete would lose about 20% of its strength.
Not sure about the civil engineering side, but I assume there’s enough safety factor in your average construction to account for 20% strength loss.

3·1 month agoYeah, I think we’re in full agreement.
I guess the part that kinda annoys me is that the common advice is “use deodorant” and not “try going for a walk and eating a carrot”. This ties into the many issues I see in industrialized society being caused by shortcuts. Yeah, smearing yourself in deodorant fixes the problem for today, but the underlying issue will be worse tomorrow. I guess there’s no profit in worrying about tomorrow.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•'You are Expected to be Clean' — Oregon Card Shop Suspends Yu-Gi-Oh Tournaments Due to Smelly PlayersEnglish
11·1 month agoSo I tend to go on long trips, and I end up going 3-4 weeks without a shower if I’m off sailing or camping in the deep woods or whatever. Edit: of course I do make sure to get naked and air out regularly, if I’m not able to wash.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure that I get pretty funky, but I’ve never gotten jock itch or anything. No skin conditions.
I think a lot of modern “hygiene” standards have less to do with hygiene and more to do with selling people more crap. Actually, the only time I remember having skin issues was the three months in 8th grade equivalent that I used deodorant. Once I stopped that, all the irritation went away.
I occasionally ask people around me if I smell, or if it’s obvious I usually only shower 3-4 times per week, and most people are surprised to find out I shower 3-4 times per week and don’t wear deodorant.
Edit2: diet also plays a huge part. I tend to eat almost exclusively rice, beans, and veggies. I recently let a friend who had some shit going down live in my basement for six months, and his primarily junk food diet definitely did a number on both odor and my toilets. I didn’t even know that level of mess was possible in six months.
