The ones with Wi-Fi are probably cheaper because they are profiting from selling your data. Just like with smart TVs.

Yeah, it wasn’t the best at anything, but it did a few things very easily and was simple to work with. I use it to create 3D from 2D images. To subtract 1 model from another one to create negatives, and repair some STLs.

Things that I haven’t found a FOSS option that works as simply and quickly.

Microsoft 3D Builder. The most useful software MS has made in the past 15 years. But of course they killed it. You can still find its installer to download from 3rd parties. Its one of the tools I sometimes need and spin up a windows VM for.

Same. But I think a big part of that is I only watched each of them one time. Where as the first 6 I’ve seen more times than I could count.

Regarding the “market tripled in size” I assume that means the amount of sales not users. So fewer people playing them, but they are buying more games.

I use Cura and a flash drive with my newer printer. But with my old printer that required being tethered (a Solidoodle2 from 2012) I was using MatterControl, as it was much easier and more reliable than Pronterface which came with the printer.

Though, the old PC I was using struggled when I did anything else on it while it was running the printer. The print speed would actually slow down or occasionally stop when loading a heavy webpage in a browser, for example.

This is obviously for little kids, not teenagers sneaking out.

As a parent with small children, a subtle fear of them getting lost or kidnapped is always at the back of the mind.

Yeah, it feels like its all supposed to be there. But without getting any of my actual friends to make an account, its hard to test any of it out. Though the bigger issue right now is that it seems my instance (friendica.world) is down or dead. The list of other instances is also struggling to load for me.

My complaint about Friendica is that it just doesn’t actually seem to do the part of Facebook that I actually want. At least not very well. I don’t want to see news, current events, memes and crap in that feed. I want to see posts and pictures from IRL friends, life updates, event organization, interest groups, etc. With privacy settings so only actual friends you want see the posts.

In its current state Friendica seems to just be a skin over mastodon, with some alpha stage friend features.

When I visited France, I always attempted to speak French, and would explain in French that I was very bad at it, and I only had good interactions where people seemed to appreciate the attempt and would switch to English for me or if they didn’t speak English we would just use google translate. Even in Paris.
