I threw together a slop project to test something. It put in some JSON for something that didn’t use that. I told it it was just some plain text. It took the JSON library out again. Then I added in something that does use JSON and it tried to make a basic JSON parsing library from scratch.

It’s like a very junior programmer at times, with amnesia.

It does make some menial tasks simpler, but if people think it will actually replace us then they’re in for a shock.

I got a mandatory phishing awareness course that we were signed up to by corporate, and I deleted it because it looked scammy as all fuck.

Don’t whine at people for not completing your course on phishing, when you sign them up to courses using scammy looking names without telling us first.

I’m not sure who these courses were even for. I was born in the scams. Moulded by them. I didn’t see a genuine banking email until I was already a man. I remember my dad forwarding pyramid schemes to his friends on paper.

Disney’s live action remakes are wank, and I’m really not sure why they started doing it or are continuing with it.

This is pure CEO “no, it’s the children who are wrong” mentality.

Valve already allows you to buy a game elsewhere and get a Steam code though, so there’s precedent there for how much it likely costs them (i.e. not much).

There is a limit that you’re not allowed to sell codes directly cheaper than on Steam (which is fair enough), but most of my Steam library is from Humble Bundles and the like.

It’s certainly not costing any of them 30% to provide downloads.

You could of course have fair use limits on the movement of your games, so you’re not transferring them about just because you can’t be arsed to go upstairs to your PC or whatever.

And not just games. Music and video should also have better ownership rights.

Hell, why not even pass a game from my account on PSN to my Steam account or vice versa?

With legislation, much of this becomes reality. None of it is technically impossible. it’s just nobody wants to do it. Publishers don’t really care where you buy a game, they still got paid. The stores want to be the arbiters of all.

I’d take that with a big pinch of salt since the shortfall is “unknown”. Probably means they’re picking up a fuck ton of bot traffic and there’s nobody at the wheel over at StatCounter…

Realistically GamePass is not sustainable in it’s current form.

Hardware is too expensive in general for mass adoption, the streaming numbers they wanted never really materialised (they wanted 70 million subs and they’ve only got 30 million), and they cannibalised the one thing the games industry needs which is game sales from people willing to drop £60+ on a game multiple times a year.

That and they’re just not making much that people want. Their big tentpole release for the whole generation was fucking Starfield, which nobody even talks about. They have no idea what they’re doing. I don’t know why they even got into gaming. Their only successful generation was the Xbox 360, and that was mostly from Sony dropping a bollock rather than MS doing something right.
